MAURITIUS: The magical, beautiful Indian Ocean Island

…ead out around the island. They’re self contained, so there are not little restaurants around the corner, because pretty much all the tourists eat within their resorts. In fact, what you’ll find is that it’s incredibly difficult to even pop into another resort to take a look. Park Hotel, Zug, Switzerland: Lacks charm. Efficient but dull.

Park Hotel, Zug, Switzerland: Lacks charm. Efficient but dull.

…zerland is one of the few countries in Europe where you can still smoke in restaurants and bars. In the evening in the lobby there is a very smoky smell, and also in the restaurant. So not ideal. The Park Hotel is a strange place. It is fine enough but lacks charm, warmth of atmosphere and feels a bit underwhelming. It is not a hotel one would seek out, it is functional and very much a business meeting and overnight stay place. The first time I st…

…onditioning, but that was not everyone’s experience. There are a number of restaurants in the hotel, but all are fairly average. But at least there is some choice. There is a 24 hour fitness centre that is well equipped with weights, cardio machines, small pool and sauna. It is very hot down there. You have to take a specific lift down to the centre. Other than having to stay there because you have to go to a conference being held there and you ha…

You ideally need a car, but there is a regular hotel shuttle to and from the shops. Overall a safe and fine plac…

…investment, they have amazing charm and are now filled with antique shops, restaurants, quirky artwork galleries and jewellery shops. The charm being they are all made by local area artists and so unique. There is also a distinct hippy feel a lot of the time and you see tarot reading and physics’ shops. There is a small harbour and there is Harbour House which apparently serves great food along with great views. It was too busy the day we went, bu…

…who have yet to discover the area. We spent evenings here as we found the restaurants more efficient and more passionate than many of the better known and tourist trade focused places. The latter not really having to worry about repeat custom. We also found the owners and managers more involved and friendly in the Kloof Street places. It is a fun and vibrant part of Cape Town and great to stroll about. Some of the places we really liked were: – S…

…aris or at the massive Conference Centre opposite. Once at the hotel things like internet access is high (26 Euros per 24hours) and drinks in the popular Jazz bar in the lobby are also expensive. There are a few restaurants which are also costly. Breakfast buffet is huge and packed, and around 25 Euros. Overall, I like the hotel as is a great location and very quiet and comfortable rooms.
