Things To Do In Seoul (South Korea). Hotels, Tours, Museums & More

…s true in most cities which are not very big tourists stops) did not speak English and so a good idea to get the hotel concierge to give you the name of where you want to go in Korean and your hotel as well. The taxi drivers seem very good natured and helpful but struggled with me trying to explain Grand Hyatt Hotel but got me there with me directing sometimes. One thing I will add is that I felt very safe in the city, and not sure if that was a f…

BEER IN DEVON UK: pretty and charming seaside resort worth a visit

BEER IN DEVON UK: pretty and charming seaside resort worth a visit

…village on the coast of Devon is in many ways a better example of what an English seaside venue should be. Unlike its bigger neighbours like Sidmouth, it is not tacky, not full of big cheap looking hotels full of decrepit guests and over priced shops and tourist eating places. Beer retains it charm as it seems to be a largely residential village, with some small guest houses and I assume houses that are rented out. It does attract a lot of weeken…

…island. The grounds and house having stunning views across the sea to the English coast and Portsmouth in particular. The island today is a curious mix, as it still attracts people with money who have second or holiday homes, and are attracted by the scenery, beaches and sailing. You can get there from Portsmouth (closest) or Southampton. There are fast catamaran crossings for passengers and then the ferry that takes about 200 cars / trucks and ta…

Hotel Du Louvre Hotel Paris: a great location, friendly service and good place to stay

Hotel Du Louvre Hotel Paris: a great location, friendly service and good place to stay

…. The TV is old style and had a fairly wide number of channels, though for English speakers there were 2 (CNN and BBC Choice). One thing I really appreciated was that wireless internet was in the rooms and meeting rooms for free. This is a great and very welcome thing. More hotels should do this. The breakfast in their Brasserie was a good spread and really good. The staff in there, as with the entire hotel, were really chatty, welcoming and would…

Hotel Barocco, Rome, Italy

Hotel Barocco, Rome, Italy

…is very quiet. The staff are very helpful and friendly and speak excellent English, and so make visitors feel welcome. I was in the annex which is 2 doors down and up on the 1st floor. It seems that the block the annex in is an apartment block and they have a section of it that they have made into 4 or 5 rooms. The room was large and traditionally decorated with oil painting style pictures, big drapes and heavy dark furniture. It was classy. The b…

Grand Palace Hotel, Tokyo, Japan (review, video, pictures)

…here is a small flat screen TV with very limited channel choices. The only English language channel was CNN. The bathroom was small with toilet, basin and bath with hand held shower. The buffet restaurant is ok, though has a fairly small range of food at each meal time considering the diversity of travelers staying. There was a good (but expensive) Japanese restaurant in the basement. There is also a Chinese one but did not try that. The hotel has…

Cunard Queen Victoria: 4 nights cruise May 2008: My Journal

…stretching very far. The beach was not very exciting, as I guess it is the English Channel and the beach was divided up into concessions, which charge 4 Euros for a chair and more for an umbrella. We then fled back to the ship and enjoyed the glorious weather, gym and ate. We had to pack up and leave our suitcases outside our room before midnight. Then off to bed to wake up docking in Southampton. We were off the ship by 08.30. Next time we will d…

Radisson SAS Hotel Boulogne Paris (review, photos, video)

…s in different languages, and as a very frequent traveler with only really English as my language, it was great to have BBC 1 and 2 and not just the news channels to watch! The hotel is on a very busy road and so is not the quietest as rooms have traffic noise. But it is not too loud, and ear plugs blocks it all out. The breakfast buffet is pretty good, though expensive if not part of your package (22 Euros). It is always packed as the hotel seems…

Caribbean Cruise Part 6: Antigua

Caribbean Cruise Part 6: Antigua

…t history with Columbus originally “discovering it” but the French and the English then kept fighting over it and then eventually ganging up to slaughter the native Carib Indians who were local to the island. Of all of the islands we have visited, this was the one I found to be the most aggressive and least welcoming. The minute you step off the ship and through the cruise center gates you are constantly harassed non-stop by taxi driver after taxi…
