Prague, Czech Republic. Review, photos and video tour of this magical European city

…ned about 15 years later after restoration. I loved it. You climb up the stairs to the first level (about 100 stairs) and then over another 100 to the top. You need to have a good head for heights! The view from the 1st level (which we went to) is just amazing and you can see for miles and miles. Next to the tower is an old exhibit dating from the same era of a mirror maze and a room of mirrors that distort your image which children loved. Prague…

Hotel Du Louvre Hotel Paris: a great location, friendly service and good place to stay

Hotel Du Louvre Hotel Paris: a great location, friendly service and good place to stay

…feel worth the close to 300 Euros it cost. The TV is old style and had a fairly wide number of channels, though for English speakers there were 2 (CNN and BBC Choice). One thing I really appreciated was that wireless internet was in the rooms and meeting rooms for free. This is a great and very welcome thing. More hotels should do this. The breakfast in their Brasserie was a good spread and really good. The staff in there, as with the entire hote…

Park Hotel, Zug, Switzerland: Lacks charm. Efficient but dull.

Park Hotel, Zug, Switzerland: Lacks charm. Efficient but dull.

…but un spectacular. The breakfast in the restaurant was the same, with a fairly average buffet. I did not use any of the pool or fitness, but good to know they have it. On the last trip I stayed in a more normal room (304) that was compact but had a large self standing air conditioning unit that was so loud it would be like sleeping on a factory floor if you tried to use it at night. So not very helpful. The hotel overall is just strange. The loc…

International Helicopter Museum: Travel Enthusiast’s Must See

International Helicopter Museum: Travel Enthusiast’s Must See

…ve military ones. There is a cinema area (with some plastic garden style chairs) that ran a film that was actually very interesting about the history of helicopter manufacture in the UK. Overall the museum is quite “homemade” and clearly does not have a lot of funds to decorate and manage a highly professional exhibit (like say the Imperial War Museum Duxford Cambridge does), but as is run by people with passion there is a lot of care put into. It…

Hilton Cadbury Hotel & Spa Bristol UK: review, photos & video

Hilton Cadbury Hotel & Spa Bristol UK: review, photos & video

…for a short stay. The room was a bit stuffy though as has less than great air flow. But was fine. We had dinner twice in “TheRestaurant” and the food was excellent, as was the service. The gym and spa is huge with great facilities and a large pool. The gym was busy but as there is so much equipment it was great to use. Overall we had a great stay there, as we were there in the week – and so if you looking for a break that is the best time to go b…

Hotel Pentelikon (Athens, Greece) Review and Video

Hotel Pentelikon (Athens, Greece) Review and Video

…a sort of 4 poster design but without the canopy on the top, large comfy chair, and chair and desk to work at. The bathroom was as beautiful with a wall of frosted glass doors with a large shower behind one door and a toilet behind the other.Even the meeting rooms, which are in another new building, were good. The provision of free internet access in the bedrooms was also a nice touch. The fitness center was a real disappointment. 3 cardio machine…

The railway system in the UK is quite an odd one. Great Western being very odd

The railway system in the UK is quite an odd one. Great Western being very odd

…London to Plymouth is about 5 hours and having no drinks, food as a norm seems just sloppy and incredibly incompetent. Not to mention lost revenue. On our trip today we also had doors that did and then did not and then did work. Air con that played up in some carriages. No water at all in the toilets (and of course no drinks or food) Pity as train is better overall and faster than cars. I did not even get into the complex and bizarre pricing of t…

White House Inn & Spa, Napa, California (review and pictures of this great new hotel)

…s a wow factor. The decor is stylish and not overdone. There are 2 large staircases. The staff are all friendly, not pushy but helpful when it comes to asking about tours, restaurant bookings and the like. We were in Room 10 upstairs. This was a small suite with sitting room with desk and fireplace decorated in rich browns. There was a good sized white bathroom with 2 person Jacuzzi style bath and cosy bedroom with comfortable king bed and massive…

…s Royce that get 500 cars there. They also have concerts, theatre and open air cinema shows. The Harewood family still own and live there. It seems they made their money through activities like the slave trade and commerce, and in more recent years were associated with royalty when one of Queen Victoria’s relatives (Princess Royal Mary) married into the family. In the house is an exhibition of some of her effects including her wedding dress There…
