Ever since I was a boy and read the startling story of how Mount Vesuvius erupted and drowned the city of Pompeii in ash I have been intrigued and eager to visit the town. It took me about 40 years to do it and when I finally did I was not disappointed in the slightest. It was quite staggering, and amazing that from 79AD until the mid 1700s it was a town that the world had forgotten even existed.

The best way to explain Pompeii is to show it, and so watch my video tour of Pompeii:

I grew up in Zimbabwe, but I have been based in London since 1987. My travel life spans more than three decades and that includes more than 95 cruises. In 2005, I launched Tips for Travellers to make it easy and fun for people to discover, plan and enjoy incredible cruise vacations. And the rest, as they say, is history. I have the largest cruise vlogger channel currently on YouTube, with more than 3 million video views per month.

I, too, have always been extremely interested in the story of Pompeii. It doesn’t look like I am going to get there in person any time soon, so thank you so much for sharing your visit and letting me live vicariously through your travels. I enjoy every one of your posts immensely!
