…is very busy. That may have been partly due to the fact that there were 3 cruise ships in port. The Arcadia, the Thomson Destiny (which looked like a battered old ship/ ferry turned into a cruise ship) and the travelscope.co.uk Van Gogh ship which looked even tattier. We had a fantastic view of Funchal from our cabin as we were docked facing the town. Although we are on a Port Side cabin, other than Barbados I don’t think our side has been on the…

…see the mists part on whichever new island we were exploring that day. Our ship La Pinta (www.yachtlapinta.com) was comfortable and staffed by an incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgable team who made our stay on board a pleasure. I felt that the size of the ship, which was neither too small or too large, was just right and food was plentiful and delicious. Would I go back? Probably not although I am so glad that I went and would recommend it to a…

…l voyage of the MSC Divina out of Miami Florida. For the first time in MSC Cruises history, they will have a ship based year round in the port. This magnificent ship (which MSC call “a diva like no other”) is inspired by MSC Cruise Line’s Godmother of all their ships : Sophia Loren. This screen goddess even designed and has a suite named after her on the ship. The MSC Divina will be offering a new way to experience the Caribbean – a chance to expe…
…ittle wafts and sprays of water zipping and zooming around the hull of the ship. Suddenly they broke away from the ship and headed towards us. They were a clutch of Fiat 500 cars speeding over the water! The iconic Italian cars were escorting the MSC Divina into her new home. Announcing that the Italians were arriving. We all struggled then to decide what to watch. The grand new white ship gently drifting into her new home or the buzzing and playf…

…s and Plaque Ceremony on board MSC Divina Despite having done well over 20 cruises, I have never been on a ship calling on a port for the first time. It is tradition when this happens that the Captain and the head of the Port have a formal ceremony on the ship where there is a handover of a plaque that is fixed permanently on the ship recording the event. I was delighted to have been part of the one when the MSC Divina called at Port Canaveral to…
…as saviour Always take your daily program out with you when you leave the ship to explore a port, even on a cruise line excursion. It could prove to be a saviour should you get lost, left behind, injured or mugged. The daily program has the contact details of the cruise line’s agent in the port. It will give their address and phone numbers. Some programs also include the ship’ emergency contact details and the address of where the ship is docked…
