Tips for Travellers on Silversea Cruises
I was delighted to travel with Silversea Cruises in a 7 night Baltic Cruise. This page brings all my articles, videos and the things that I discovered about the cruise line, their service and the ship (Silversea Whisper). I will also be reporting about the destinations we visit (Tallinn, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Copenhagen).
Before the trip – thoughts, ideas and planning
What travelers have said they want to know about Silversea Cruises and the Silver Whisper, and what I will focus on. In this article the areas people say they want to focus on are real life, advice and tips that go beyond the brochure, advertising and other promotional material. The main areas of interest are: food and wine quality, choice and presentation; detailed video tour of the ship, including areas not usually covered in the promotional video tours; insider advice and tips from the crew on how to get the most from them and the service on-board and what exactly is a “luxury” cruise and cruise line, and is it good value for the money.
What do you want me to cover and report on? Send me your thoughts or questions about the cruise line, the ship, the facilities, the cabins or the destinations that you would like to see or know more about. Leave a comment on the page, or email me
The Silversea “Silver Box”. Turning the arrival of cruise tickets into an event. In the build-up to a cruise, a key milestone is the arrival of the tickets. Silversea turn it into an event in its own right, by sending them in a beautiful silver coloured box which contains leather ticket wallet, leather luggage tag, socially prepared booklet with tour information and other tips. This article shows the box, content and shares more thoughts on the contents.
On the trip – my impressions and what I discovered and observed
First impressions of Silver Whisper. Did my panic about cruising on a small ship that I had on the flight to join the ship come to fruition….??? Read my thoughts and observations of the first day. And the concern I had on the way to join the ship that it would all be a bit too small.
Food on-board Silver Whisper. And my daily #foodporn photographs of the meals (as it is called on Instragram). I post photos and thoughts of the food I am eating on the ship each day. See the starter, main course and desert. You can also see afternoon tea, typical breakfast and lunch. Summary: tasty and awesome looking too..
Hot Rocks Poolside in the evenings is quite an experience. A slab of raw meat is placed on a 420 degree celsius lava rock and cooks in front of you. Read my review and thoughts!
Silversea Silver Whisper Executive Chef and the kitchen galley tour. Ramon De Bernard, the enthusiastic, charming and talented Executive Chef took a small group of us on a tour of the kitchen galley and shared some secrets and facts about what goes into making the food for passengers and crew.
Silver Whisper Verandah Suite Review and Video Tour. I was staying in one of the most usual suite types on board, called a Verandah Suite. Mine was 622 on Deck 6. Really comfortable and stylish. Click on the link to read the review, and watch the video tour I made below:
Silver Whisper Premium Suites Video Tours and Photos. I managed to visit and video a Grand Suite (massive!!!) and a Medallion Suite (want to stay in one of these!). Both are stunning, and take a look at what you could stay in if you want to splash some cash on a lot of space and extra luxury!

For the love of a decent cup of coffee. The story of good water and Illy Coffee. The hotel manager on Silversea Silver Whisper explained to me why I have never had a good cup of coffeee on a cruise ship. And how they managed to get water so great it not only makes good coffee but let them serve Illy coffee.
Letting the Artists of Silversea do what they do best: entertain. In this article I look at an innovative idea from the cruise line where they let their entertainment troupe devise and put on their own shows in addition to the ones that Silversea head office commission. The result is a varied program to add to the set shows.
Watch the video tour of the entire ship, including all the restaurants, bars, public areas and facilities:

I travelled as a guest of Silversea on the Silver Whisper on a 7 night Baltics Cruise from Stockholm, visiting Tallinn, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Copenhagen. Silversea are a privately owned, luxury all-inclusive, small ship cruise line with an Italian heritage that appeals to well-travelled, international guests.
