I asked myself this very question when I went to book a hotel at London Gatwick hotel for this coming Saturday. I have a flight out of the airport fairly early Sunday and decided to make the morning less of a rush by staying at the airport the night before.
I realized that I actually didn’t have a favorite site. Do you? I play around between sites, usually ending up with a couple of the actual hotel, airline or car rental sites open and flick between them to decide!
There must be about a trillion different sites out there, and I feel like I have tried about a million myself. I was looking, for example, at UK based “The Sunday Times” travel section this past Sunday which listed their Top 10 best travel sites which were a mish-mash of information sites, booking sites and blogging sites.
It was, therefore timely, that I came across a site called hotelreservations.com. I had never heard about it before (although their “about us” says they have been around for 6 years). They also have a pretty big global presence as you can chose your country and it automatically quotes in your local currency.

So I did my search on hotelreservations.com – and as you can see from the screen gab up popped an amazing deal for the Sofitel at Gatwick. This is much lower than I paid when I also stayed at Gatwick in March before heading off on a flight to catch a cruise from the Caribbean.
I was intrigued and so also checked out their cars booking, as I will be in Barbados (hooray!) for 2 weeks. It came up with a deal from a local car hire company, which impressed me as it means they don’t just have the “big guys” in their system but also the local suppliers. The price was US$275 a week, which means it is $39.28 a day!! (With the £:$ exchange rate that is VERY cheap for us!).
I was too scared to check what rate they would quote for the hotel (Fairmont Royal Pavillion) we are staying at, in case they beat that too as I know we cannot cancel the booking we have!
